Leadership Anywhere Book by Peter Benei

From this book, you will learn:

  • How to structure your remote company to meet any upcoming challenges

  • How to become an inspiring leader for your remote team

  • How to effectively measure your remote team’s performance

  • How to be better with remote collaboration and communication

  • How to build, retain, and grow a motivated, productive remote team

I found the book very interesting. We had already implemented some recommendations and some new ones we are discussing with my team.
— Jenn Sooley, Solutions Strategist at Summa Linguae Technologies
This book is really great. Peter kept the right length and depth. I loved some of the frameworks and concepts, e.g the async comms matrix, the scorecard for potential leaders. It’s quite packed with good advice.
— Sumeet Gayathri Moghe, Principal Product Manager at Thoughtworks
Leadership Anywhere is one of the better books written on asynchronous leadership. That means it’s the perfect books for remote leaders, and also in-office leaders who want to improve operations and productivity for their hybrid teams.

And that’s exactly the beauty of the book: it’s practical, it’s specific. It acknowledges the challeges of scaling a company, giving clear guidance on what to do to mitigate many of the risks without having to revert to a meetings-only agenda.
— Valentina Thörner, Founder at Remote That Works

Who can benefit from reading this book?

When I started to write, I had a clear target whom I thought could benefit from the information shared in the book.

  • You have or work for a growing company that has already created a product or service.

  • You already have some revenue, and you are ready to scale things up.

  • Your company is either operating fully remote or hybrid.

  • Your team is around 10-100 people, and they are scattered across different locations, possibly even in different time zones.

  • You are a leader or a manager of a team, or you are aspiring to become one.

You can also use this book if you are a solo entrepreneur or a pre-seed company founder.

The same applies to those operating in an enterprise environment or managing large global teams.

The book has 4 chapters with 200+ pages.

Why do we think in startup terms but want to operate like an enterprise?

Why are production and shipping easy, but management is hard?

What’s the deal with the remote work revolution?

Why do we talk only about tech stack and tools, and why it doesn’t matter much?

Why do current leaders have no guidance on how to lead their remote teams?

Chapter Two focuses on distributed business operations.

Why is the company’s mission important, especially in a remote setting?

How can you scale your business and team with intention?

What is a modular company setup, and how to build one?

How can you set up a remote operational foundation?

How should you recruit the first leaders for your remote company?

Chapter Three deals with soft skills and leadership practices.

What is the role of time and transparency in a remote company?

How should you communicate with your remote team?

What is the leader’s intent, and how can it help you?

How should you make asynchronous decisions?

Chapter Four deals with tactics and get-things-done practices.

How to scale from 10 to 100 people remotely, anywhere.

About me

For a decade, I worked in leadership positions in the traditional office environment, supporting global brands with my creative teams in the advertising industry. Then, I switched to remote and did the same for remote-only companies for another decade.

I have gained my leadership skills from enterprise companies and applied them to the startup world.

Yes, I made the same mistakes as everyone else, and I will cover those mistakes in this book. Learn the hard way.

This experience gave me a competitive edge against those who have never worked in a classic office environment or just started working remotely in the last few years.

I was also able to lead my teams to success.

Participated in seed rounds, scaled up teams from 5 to 50, and helped to grow companies from idea to acquisition or series A funding.
